Quick Update on my 22/45

I have one minor quibble about the gun. The grips are smooth. I found that when shooting a match in 95∘heat, sweaty hands + smooth grips = not having a completely solid grasp on the gun.

I think I may end up getting the front strap and parts of the back strap stippled to aid in gripping the gun.

  1. I don’t dig the smooth grips, personally.

I’ve pretty much settled on Gatorbacks, since they give good traction without sticking to my clothes or tearing them up. Much.

  2. Have you shot or held the new 22/45 with replaceable grips? I’d like to hear your opinion on the difference between your mod vs. the oem.

  3. Tam, had I to do it over again, I’d go with grips that had a texture. However, I just happened to have the grips sitting in my miscellaneous gun parts box, so that’s what I used.

I think a bit of stippling on the front strap and around the back of the grip would solve the problem nicely. If was feeling particularly gamey, some of that quick-drying grip stuff would probably help, too.

  4. Rob, I have yet to even see one, let alone handle it. I heard about the new model of the 22/45 with replaceable grips about two weeks after dropping my gun off with the gun smith who made the modification.

I’ll keep an eye peeled for them at the local gun shops, and if I see one I’ll take a look at it and report back with my impression.
